Account Verification

ArtStation has grown into one of the largest sites on the internet with millions of people using the website every month. This popularity has been great for the artists who are showcasing work on ArtStation, but has also attracted many unwanted trolls and fake accounts. Email is no longer enough to verify the authenticity of an account as there are many ways to get a free disposable email.

ArtStation is now requiring users to verify their account. You can verify your account either via Facebook, LinkedIn or SMS. For simplicity and the added ability to publish your work directly to Facebook and LinkedIn from your account, we recommend using Facebook or LinkedIn to verify your account.

Does this really work?

Yes it does. We went from having to ban hundreds of fake accounts and trolls every month, spending thousands of dollars in lost time and effort, down to banning literally only a couple of accounts every month. This really does work and the quality of the community has improved dramatically.

If you're serious about your role as a professional artist, we highly recommend that you have a LinkedIn account. Facebook is also great as there is a thriving community of artists on it.

Isn't my email enough?

No. There are so many ways of getting a fake email account. Just because you have an email address is not enough to verify your account on many online platforms now.

How does LinkedIn or Facebook verification work?

This is the simplest and we recommend verifying with LinkedIn or Facebook. At the account verification step, simply select which method to use. You'll be asked by LinkedIn or Facebook whether to grant permission to ArtStation to authenticate with your account.

How does the SMS verification work?

Note that we primarily recommend that you use LinkedIn or Facebook to authenticate your account for simplicity.

SMS verification works by sending an SMS to your cellphone. You will be required to respond to the SMS to retrieve your 6 digit verification code. We do this as there are many fake SMS number websites for receiving SMS.

Didn't receive the SMS verification number?

Unfortunately, some cellphone carriers may not deliver your SMS to an international number. Our verification SMS number is in the US.

We require this 2-step approach because there are many websites where people can get fake SMS numbers specifically to receive these kinds of codes. This 2-step approach verifies that the number being used is real and active. Most of the time it works, just that sometimes with our global audience it doesn't. In such cases, we recommend first that you use Facebook or LinkedIn to verify your account as it will take less time. You can also contact us via support, but you'll have to wait for us to verify the authenticity of your account.

What will my cell number be used for?

Your cell number will only be used for verifying your account only. We do not give or sell user cellphone data.

Can I use ArtStation without verifying my account?

To maintain a high quality community, we only want serious users on ArtStation and that is why we have implemented this verification step. If you do not agree with to this, we recommend that you do not use ArtStation.

But I don't want to give that information

Then don't sign up for ArtStation. Simple. ArtStation is a professional community. The quality of our users is high and our signal to noise ratio is highest in the industry.

Please don't email us about this being an invasion of privacy, etc. We won't respond to those emails. Hundreds of thousands of people use ArtStation without a problem. If you don't agree with this verification step, just don't use ArtStation. You can cancel your account on the verification page.

Hey this verification system is really lame

If you feel this verification is lame, don't use ArtStation. Simple. It really doesn't bother us because we know the system works and it has not affected our growth at all. We continue to grow leaps and bounds with high quality artists. This system is actually keeping out the lame users.

Please don't email us about this being an invasion of privacy, etc. We won't respond to those emails. Hundreds of thousands of people use ArtStation without a problem. If you don't agree with this verification step, just don't use ArtStation. You can cancel your account on the verification page.

I'm too young to have a cellphone, Facebook or LinkedIn account - what can I do?

ArtStation terms of service legally requires all users to be 18+ years old. If you are below 18, you cannot use ArtStation.
